The 1987 Legislative Assembly established the North Dakota Board of Addiction Counseling Examiners. Following the adoption of administrative rules in August, 1991, the Board was awarded full accreditation by the National Accreditation Commission in 1992.

The purpose of the Board is:

  • To set minimum standards for the license of addiction counselors
  • To establish core curriculum requirements
  • To approve addiction counselor training programs, internship, and clinical supervisors
  • To establish requirements for the private practice of addiction counseling.

TAKE NOTICE that the Board of Addiction Counseling Examiners will hold a public hearing to address proposed changes to the N.D. Admin. Code at 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 20, 2008, at the Fort Lincoln Room, State Capitol, Bismarck, ND.

            A copy of the proposed rules may be obtained by writing the Board of Addiction Counseling Examiners at NDBACE, PO Box 975, Bismarck, ND  58502-0975, calling 701-255-1439, or clicking here.  Also, written comments may be submitted to NDBACE, PO Box 975, Bismarck, ND  58502-0975 until November 30, 2008.  If you plan to attend the public hearing and will need special facilities or assistance relating to a disability, please contact the Board of Addiction Counseling Examiners at the above telephone number or address at least 5 days prior to the public hearing.

 New Notice(10-10-2008):  The NDBACE has updated the Continuing Education Guidelines to coincide with the new 2-year licensure/continuing education period..

  Notice:  All trainees must submit a copy of their transcripts with the Trainee Registration Form. Photocopies of transcripts are acceptable. The Trainee Registration Form will be returned if the transcript(s) is/are not included.

  Notice:  If you reside inside or outside of the state of North Dakota and wish to practice via the internet in North Dakota, you must be licensed by the North Dakota Board of Addiction Counseling Examiners.

 Change of Address:  The board requires that you submit your change of address in writing or email ndbace@aptnd.com.

 Notice:  If your license certificate has been lost or damaged you may contact the board office in writing to request a duplicate certificate at no charge.

NDBACE mailing address: PO Box 975, Bismarck, ND 58502-0975. The office hours are 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. CST Monday through Friday. The office is closed from 12:00 - 1:00p.m. For lunch and also closed on Federal and State Holidays.
