The
activities constituting the private practice of addiction counseling can
be found in section 4.5-02-01.1-01 of the NDBACE Administrative
Code.
Qualifications

Must
be licensed as an addiction counselor

Must
have a Masters Degree in one of the social/behavioral sciences

Applicant
must have a minimum of three years (6000 hours) beyond licensure of
supervised clinical experience by a Board-approved clinical
supervisor.
Registration
Procedure
All
licensed addiction counselors requesting to be registered for private
practice shall submit a Private Practice Registration application to the
Board for approval. The application must include:

Description of
intended private practice

Description of
a peer review plan (peers involved, review process, frequency of meetings)
Peer Review Process
Addiction counselors in private
practice must implement a peer review process and annually verify that
quarterly peer review meetings have been held.
The peer review must consist of individuals with expertise in the
field of addiction counseling. The review committee must consist of one licensed addiction
counselor (in addition to the private practice applicant) and two other
health related professionals. The peer review committee must meet at
least quarterly to present and discuss cases in order to assure quality
care, obtain input in reference to problem cases, and to assist with case
management.
